aluminium racing series billet end cap

Greetings to All Gurus,
i recently got an aluminium racing series for my 1986 honda xr600r. i was wondering what is the purpose of the billet end cap? it has some weight in it. i thougt of removing it because there is already a stainless steel end cap that is assembled together with 8 discs.

Your input will be appreciated.

The aluminum end-cap is cosmetic.
