06 Kingpin 2-1 SuperMeg all stock airbox how many disc should I start with?

16-17 discs with a stock aircleaner.

running with 16 disc I can not see any difference in plug color from when I had stock exhaust on. But headed pipes are discoloring alot so worried running to hot and lean. but I still get some soot on the disc which I have read means it is still to rich?

All chrome dicolors between 800-900 degrees Fahrenheit. Discoloration (bluing) 6-12 inches from the ports is pretty normal.

I get a backfiring not loud more of a waffling backfire on decell. I think it is more when I have less disk in (richer). i'm cautious about adding disk don't want to over heat the motor maybe i'am running it to rich. I have 14 in now. thanks for the help.

Try adding discs, keep an eye on the temp, if it goes up you can always go back and remove discs if needed.
