View Full Version : Muffler sizing?

I was reading elsewhere that in order for an engine to make good peak hp, the muffler volume should be 10 times the volume of one cylinder of the engine. Does this rule of thumb apply to Supertrapp mufflers? I'm thinking that it doesn't because they are tunable, but I need to know.

I have a Ducati 900 cc twin and I want to build a 2-1 system using a Supertrapp muffler. So, one cylinder is 450 cc, meaning the muffler should be 4,500 cc. The 19" Superlight Stainless Universal muffler is close with almost 3,800 cc volume.

Is there some other method of sizing a Supertrapp muffler?

Any help is appreciated.

Muffler volume has more to do with how quiet we can get it, volume=sound absorption.
A single Superlight would work fine on that motor.
